Took a small break just before the Wedding Season kicks in (did not carry the big guns read Canon DSLRs along!) and went to attend NH7 Weekender in Pune. The trip was all about a long long drive and spending some good quality time with Pune, great music, good food and the all new GoPro!
Here is a small photo essay on the finds (artists i liked the most) of NH7 Weekender Pune for me (mostly shot with the GoPro/Nexus5/FujiFilmXE-2 cameras) -
1. The Manganiyar Classroom: (Day 1)
We started our #RoadTrip from Surat late in the morning and only reached Pune by late evening. The action plan was to spend the weekend at our own leisurely pace and not to hurry things up. So by the time we reached the venue Monica Dogra was already half way through her performance.
And then we were greeted by Songhoy Blues, a rock band from Mali! Refreshing, fast and happy was what their african music was all about. You could not help yourself but dance to their happy beats.
This was followed by The Manganiyar Classroom, hands down the most stunning live performance i have ever had the chance to witness by kids. I had no idea what their music was all about and what a treat i had in store for myself! Please check this video of theirs to understand what they are all about -
The Manganiyar Classroom features these talented kids in a classroom setup. The music illustrates how the right kind of teacher and education is more beneficial than a fixed curriculum.
Saying that we all in the audience were stunned by their performance would be an understatement! Its just something you have got to experience for yourself. This was followed by Goldspot. Another favourite from the event :)
2. Goldspot: (Day 1)
This was a band i was looking forward to. And this US based indie band did not disappoint at all. From their pop english numbers to their awesome old hindi reincarnations they were on a roll.
My favorites from them were Friday and their version of Ena Meena Deeka.
3. The Bartender! (Day 2)
If you have not heard of Mikey McCleary... leave everything right away and go youtube him! I have been a big fan since Khoya Khoya Chand and Hawa Hawai (Shaitan). The way he revamps old hindi classics and adds jazzy, seductive & mischievous flare is something i love about him (apart from how good looking he is :P )
Listening to Mikey's version of old 60s, 70s and 80s hits and watching them perform it live was just too much fun.
4. Amit Trivedi: (Day 2)
Day two for me started with a south indian breakfast at the famous Vaishali Hotel followed by a stroll through Fergusson College. Then i had the pleasure of watching The Bartender performing live. And literally speaking there was no better end to the day than sitting in the green grass with my eyes closed and listening to Amit Trivedi perform live!
5. The Raghu Dixit Project: (Day 3)
This guy is a ROCKSTAR! (in a lungi!!!)
This performance was just breathtakingly beautiful. The energy in this concert was like no other.
The production - GRAND!
6. Indian Ocean: (Day 3)
Indian Ocean featuring Shubha Mudgal, Selvaganesh, and Vishal Dadlani. (need i say more?)
Disclaimer: There were a lot of other good bands in the line up but these are the two performances from each day i liked the most (i missed quite a few since there were 5 stages in total with 2/3 live concerts going simultaneously all the time, also not that big a fan of heavy metal.... so...). Few other notable experiences for me were -
All in all a superb experience and an unforgettable weekend :)
Thank You NH7 Weekender!
And to end this post... here is a picture of us goproing :)
